Lost in Shangri-La by Mitchell Zuckoff (TLC Tour)

The Skinny: This book will make anyone want to learn more about WWII.

Lost in Shangri-La is an exciting tale about a rescue during World War II. When a helicopter containing military personnel crashes in New Guinea, only three individuals survive. In addition to healing from injuries, the survivors must interact with the natives, a group of people whose culture is unique and complex. While navigating the cultural differences, the three survivors must wait until rescue arrives.

Zuckoff drew from primary sources to create an accurate story. This attention to detail is what captivates readers. The writing is vivid and the descriptions are so rich that I had no trouble crafting wonderful mental images of the places and events that are described. It is clear that Zuckoff is a talented writer who balances factual information with beautiful language. Each of the characters is well-developed and had unique voices.

I greatly enjoyed Lost in Shangri-La, and I recommend it to anyone who is looking to read a thrilling tale. This is the type of book that would make an excellent movie. The inclusion of factual information provides readers with a look at an event during WWII that is often never mentioned. Prior to reading, I was unaware of the rescue efforts that occurred, and I am pleased that I learned something new.  Zuckoff is an excellent writer who created a story that is memorable and enthralling. You should definitely read it.

The Curse Workers series by Holly Black

The Skinny: A captivating series that fulfills every reader’s needs

This series has great writing, incredible characters, and interesting storylines. I highly suggest that you read this trilogy.

In the Curse Workers trilogy, we meet the Sharpe family. They are conmen, persuaders, and negotiators. If The Godfather fell in love with an X-Men character, the result would be The Curse Workers. There are people who are “workers” and possess the ability to manipulate others. Individuals can be dream workers, luck workers, death workers, transformation workers, memory workers, or physical workers. While many workers try to hide their abilities, others embrace their talents and enter the world of crime.

Our main character is Cassel and his observations and humor will tickle any reader. His complicated relationship with his family and their ties to organized crime consume Cassel’s life as he attempts to create a sense of normalcy. Each book in this series has a unique story and combines to create a trilogy that is memorable.

I picked up White Cat by Holly Black after reading a few reviews on Goodreads. After devouring it in one day, I immediately ordered the other two books in the series. Black is a wonderful writer, and our main character has a great voice.

If you are looking for a well-written story, you should read The Curse Workers. It is highly enjoyable.

Entangled Publishing's Dead Sexy line

Entangled Publishing is my favorite publisher. The company not only publishes excellent books but also connects to its fans and takes an active role in marketing its authors and books. As an MBA student, I gleefully admire EP’s business model, but I will not gush about it in this post. I will, however, discuss the development of a new and exciting line that EP will launch on June 15th.

Dead Sexy is a line that caters to readers who adore mystery and romantic suspense tales. One June 15th, we will have access to recent works by Anna DeStefano, Mallory Kane, and Misa Ramirez.

Anna DeStefano’s Her Forgotten Betrayal is a suspenseful account of a woman who suffers from amnesia. As she attempts to regain her memory, she fends off the FBI and falls for a dashing stranger. Her past and locked memories have put her in danger, and she is unaware that her lover will betray her. If she remembers her past, she saves herself, but her blossoming love may be broken.

Mallory Kane’s No Hero takes readers into the mind of a seductive detective who must seek help from a ghost from lovers past to uncover the truth about a murder. As he reunites with his past lover, a woman who betrayed him, he finds that his latent feelings burn again and they rekindle their romance during their quest to uncover the truth about the crime.

Sacrifice of Passion by Misa Ramirez is tale that perfectly combines mystery and romance. A Texas rancher investigates a mysterious creature and obtains assistance from a veterinary assistant who abandoned him at the altar. As he attempts to cleanse his memories of their time together, he watches as she bonds with his silent son and thereby reinserting herself in his heart. When she refuses to entrust her former lover with a secret, she finds herself at the mercy of the chupacabra. Past misdeeds must be explored in order for these careful lovers to be reunited.

Don’t these books sounds wonderful? I am certain that Dead Sexy will be a line that will draw new readers to Entangled Publishing and will continue to create a Pavlovian response in current readers. I eagerly anticipate the release of these titles, and I encourage you to read them as soon as they are released.

Until I Die by Amy Plum

The Skinny: A wonderful and strong sequel that everyone should read

I read Die For Me several months ago, and I adored it. Plum created a story that seamlessly weaves emotion and fantasy into a memorable tale. Our protagonist, Kate, has a great voice and readers will appreciate her bravery and loyalty. When I received an ARC from HarperTeen, I immediately set aside all coursework to take a quick trip abroad.

The setting is Paris, France, and the story is liberally littered with places and attractions that will entice readers to visit the City of Light. Plum’s including real places in her work is my favorite aspect of the novel. She richly describes scenes and places so well that my imagination is saturated with details, sounds, and colours.

As a second novel, Until I Die is successful, and I believe that the writing is even stronger than Die For Me. I loved the banter between the Revenants and the relationships felt natural and realistic.

I recommend this novel for individuals who enjoy reading stories that are set in magical places. If you appreciate good writing, you will love this series. My hopes for the next book include an explanation and a happy resolution. I appreciate Plum’s courageous writing strategy, but I am impatiently waiting to read what happens!
