Follow Friday


This week's question: Have you ever looked at a book's cover and thought, “This is going to be horrible?” but you were pleasantly surprised upon reading?
When I picked up Vampire Academy, I thought the cover featured a weird drugged-out Angelina Jolie lookalike. I heard a lot about the VA series, and I was so afraid that it would be like Twilight. The cover did nothing to assuage my fears. I started reading and was thrilled to find that I enjoyed the story.

    I've been meaning to read this one for a while! But you're right, she does look like Angelina on drugs haha.

    HA! I've never read this one but when I saw the preview on my blogger I thought "gee, Angelina looks all effed up again!" I agree with you!

    I never thought you would bring this cover up. I was so engrossed in this series and amazing plot, that I never looked back for the lack of great cover (except for the first time). :)

    I have not read this series, but not because of the cover. It's because of the word "Vampire" in the title. That's just not my thing. ;)

    A drugged out Angie? lol..I had the same misconception and suffice to say I haven't pick up VA to this day. Is it that good?

    Seeing VA a lot today! Didn't think too much of it myself. I stayed away for a bit because I thought it would have too much teen drama! Was so wrong! Glad my friends online convinced me! And that was before book 4 came out! Plenty of time for me to get caught up then!

    I MUST agree with you on Vampire Academy. I think this cover, and the premise, has stopped me from buying it on many occasions. But with so many others recommending it, I guess I'll have to give in at some point! Thanks again for the follow! I've followed right back, and I look forward to your posts!

    I never actually finished that book, I tried but just couldn't get into even though everyone keeps telling me its such a good series. Thought they also say it gets better as it goes and if I could just make it through the first one..but I never did..

    I've always thought the girl on the cover looked like Angelina Jolie (circa Girl, Interrupted era)! I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw it :)

    I haven't read Vampire Academy- but I will give it a try. I originally didn't like the cover of Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Gregor the Overlander, and The Lightning Thief. I ended up loving all of them. It is hard not to judge a book by its cover. :)
